Weight Loss Myths: Things You Need to Know About Weight Loss

With our busy lives these days, nobody has time to diet or exercise properly. Obesity is usually the result of living a stressful lifestyle with a lack of time. People who do try to make time to lose weight, often find that they don’t achieve their goals right away and give up. This may be the result of not know how to properly diet. There are many myths circulating around about what and what not to do while losing weight. Knowing what these myths are can educate you on how to lose weight properly.

You Don’t Need to Count Calories

Yes you do. Counting your calorie intake is a good way to measure how many calories you have had in your day. Write you calorie intake on everything you eat. Don’t get lazy and don’t estimate it. Limit the amount of fat that you get in your diet because the calories add up twice as fast.

Always Eat a Breakfast

You don’t have to eat a large breakfast every single day. Just make sure you eat something within three hours of waking up. If you miss eating something in the morning you will be hungry throughout your day and when you do eat something, you will most likely overeat. Eating something little in the morning makes it so you aren’t completely starving during the day.

Eat Three Times a Day

Even though you should get at least three meals a day, it is better if you get six meals a day. If you eat six small meals you will have a reduced chance of overeating, which could lead to increased calorie intake.

Carbs Make You Fat

The truth is carbs are necessary for your diet. The part of carbs that makes you fat is the sugars and fats. If you eat tons and tons of carbs, then you may gain a few pounds. Eat these in moderation and you should be fine.

Avoid All Fats

Fats are also a necessary part of your diet and increase your sense of fullness. Even though fat is two times more fattening than carbs, you should not completely avoid them. If you avoid all fats you will become hungrier. Fats increase fullness because it prevents your stomach from emptying out. Make sure you get fats into your diet, but remember, get them in moderation.

Avoid All Deserts

Make sure you don’t avoid deserts. You can have sweets in moderation and it is actually a good reward for yourself. After you have finished your desert, stay on your diet. If you have avoided deserts for a long amount of time you may go crazy when you finally eat them. This is where people start to fail their diets. Have a desert once a day or once a week. Just don’t over eat them.

Only Exercise

Exercising is a very good thing to do, but alone it will not help you lose weight. Exercise must be combined with a proper, healthy diet to be affective. Exercise does not burn as many calories as you think. If you eat a huge meal exercise will not be able to burn it all off. You must eat properly and exercise for maximum weight loss.

Do Not Weigh Yourself

Actually you want to weigh yourself. You want to know if you are getting farther or closer to your goals. Check your weight at least once or twice a week to see exactly where you are. Don’t see it as a punishment, see it as a reward. Just keep an eye on your weight, but don’t overdo it. Checking every hour to see if you’ve lost weight is a bad thing.

Don’t Eat After 6 p.m.

It doesn’t matter when you eat, just don’t eat a large meal right before bed. This is the perfect time to grab a small snack. Get some popcorn and watch TV or something of that nature. It is possible to eat at night and be on a proper diet.

Don’t Snack Between Meals

Actually it a good thing if you have something small between meals. You have to make sure it is small though, having large snacks can make your calorie intake higher. This would not be good when you are trying to lose weight. Have a piece of fruit or yogurt between lunch and dinner. That is a great way to ease hunger and not have too many calories.

Knowing all of these myths will help you when creating a proper diet. Do not fall for them, that is why they are called myths. Know the difference between fact and fiction.
