Skin Care: Advice on Taking Care of Your Skin

There are many basic things that you can do to keep your skin in great shape. The skin is the biggest organ on the human body. Everyone sees your skin so why not try to keep it as great as possible. When you take care of your skin you slow down the natural process of aging and help prevent skin problems. If you want to look like you are 30 when you are actually 45 take a look at some of these easy-to-follow tips about skincare.

Protection from Sun

Believe it or not, the sun’s rays are actually bad for your skin. They speed up the process of wrinkles, age spots, and give you dry skin. Too much sun exposure can cause skin cancer. Protecting yourself from the sun is vital to taking care of your skin. Protection from the sun is very easy if you follow some easy rules.

You should wear protective clothing if you know you are going to be exposed to the sun for a long amount of time. Wearing a hat is a great way to protect your face and wearing long-sleeved shirts will help with your arms. There is also such a thing as sun protective clothing that keeps you comfortable and cool all while keeping the sun’s rays off of you which is great for the skin.

The sun’s rays are the strongest between around 10am and 4pm. Typically the rays are the absolute strongest at 12pm. Avoid the sun between these times and if you know you are going to be exposed to them during these times you should have sunscreen on. Sunscreen should be applied about 30 minutes before being exposed to the sun. If it is not water-proof sunscreen you should reapply every 2 hours to avoid it being watered off.

Treat Your Skin with Care

Everything you do can take a toll on your skin. If you learn how to take care of your skin you will notice a difference in how your skin looks. If you want to treat your skin nicely follow some of the tips below.

Don’t take a long shower. Hot water removes needed oils from your skin. To negate this effect you should use slightly warm water and limit the amount of time you spend in the shower each day.

Avoid strong soaps because they can take natural oils from your skin. An alternative would be to use mild cleansers.

When you shave be sure to use cream or gel to protect your skin from burns. Also be sure to shave with the grain and not against it. Use a clean, sharp razor to get a close shave that will leave your skin feeling nice and smooth.

After you get out of the shower you should blot or pat your skin dry so you leave some moisture on your skin. This helps take care of dry skin.

Use moisturizer on your skin. Lotion works great for this. Be sure to put some moisturizer after you shower or during the day to keep your skin looking great and feeling soft.

Manage Stress

When you are stressed you are more sensitive to acne. Managing your stress is a great way to not only keep skin healthy, but also to have a healthy mind. To help relieve stress take a look at the Stress Management page. This is an awesome step in improving skin.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Eating a healthy diet is just all around good for you. It makes you look and feel great. Eating plenty of fruit and vegetables will help your diet. Anything with Vitamin C will help you have younger looking skin. Also be sure not to eat a lot of carbohydrates.

Do Not Smoke

Smoking is extremely bad for you; news to you, right? It will not help you with anything except looking older and more wrinkly. Smoking decreases blood flow near the surface of the skin which doesn’t allow nutrients to help your skin. Smoking also destroys the fibers which help your skin stay strong. When you are smoking, the facial features that you make will also contribute to wrinkles.
